So tonight I actually made it to class on-time and awake, quite a surprise. Maybe it was the smoothie from Jamba Juice perhaps?
Anyway, I think my results from tonight’s class are much better than the ones from previous weeks. I conciously tried to limit what detail I was working on, so that I could focus more on the shading. In addition, I tried to kick the contrast of the shading up a notch just to see if the results looked any better. Even if it was slightly more unnatural than normal. In the final example below I think that going for darker blacks really helped to make the depth pop out a bit more, which is something I will try to do more of in the future.
Is it odd that for 2006, 99% the posts on this have had nude people in them? Perhaps, I should post more family friendly fare…

nice work! I only worked with charcoal for a short time, but I learned to love it (and not touch my clothes or face).
My first life drawing class was held in a converted barn. The model, for some reason (allergic to hay?) didn’t show up, and the owner of the barn offered to substitute. She was fifty-some years old and weighed around 250, maybe more. All flab and drab — I’d rather have male models. One of the later classes did have a last-minute male model — nice looking guy, but he refused to disrobe — thank you!
Most of the serious art schools in the Chicago area require you to take turns modeling, so everytime I run across an art student at some gathering, I really want to ask –.
OH! and don’t apologize for the nude pictures; there’re only two sexes in this world, and most people over the age of five are aware of them and most are quite happy about it.
